Sepia and tints

I have always threatened to go back to some of my old NEF's and play around some more with them, processing files I already have on my blogs and FaceBook. The look of antuqity is fascinating and it seems images with mist and fog are ideal for this kind of effect. It's pretty easy with good software, Capture NX2 is perfectly designed for Nikon shooters.

Walk a little further, get better photos

With all of the snow this week, going places by car is not easy - so why not go by foot? There are always great images to be had right in your own backyard, sometimes literally. Walking allows you to see things you otherwise would miss.

The Penney farm is about a kilometer away, not that far fior someone like me who is used to walking, even with big winter boots. I was glad to see the long driveway to the abandoned home place was plowed out, I was able to go just about anywhere to get the necessary captures. One of the Penney boys even tried to help me catch a bald eagle image, but the 16-85mm VR zoom just would not cut it as we encroached.

I enjoy the mixture of color and b/w files, snow exposure is always going tio be tricky with any medium. I often just rely on my own instincts to get it right.

February is no warmer than January.....

A new month should bring promises of new hope that the cold weather might be dissipating, not happening this winter. When I left home, my thermometer was down to -25 degrees, but I was determined to get some captures around the Carding Mills. Surely, I can stand the freezing temperatures for a few moments, I won't fumble with the tripod. VR technology is a great tool allowing me to hand-hold these at 1/15th second with the 16-85mm zoom.
