More local magic light

I have concluded that after more than 27 years of shooting images, walking is the best way to capture the drama that happens all around you. It's easy - just out one foot ahead of the other, and you are off and seeing your own environment where you rest, eat and play. Driving just doesn't work as you miss far too many details.

The best way to exercise your eye is to take one camera and one lens and shoot. I chose to take out the D60 and the 12-24mm for a short excursion, I am happy with the results.

Simplicity in imaging

Sometimes we want to take photos of nature and tend to over-complicate things by making the compostions too busy. It's best to strive for a simple look, a stroll around your neighborhood can be all that you need. Walking is great for a variety of reasons - exercise, doesn't cost a cent, plus you see every detail in your community.

Local Bridgewater images

I often fancy myself as a street shooter of sorts, that kind of imaging is challenging but rewarding. These are more or less town scenics, nothing fancy but show what you can find in the hustle bustle of the industrialized centre of Lunenburg County. As per usual, I like to photograph on the edge of light and prefer dark and moody conditions.

A local favourite place to visit

Seems I have learned to really enjoy visiting this local farm, the lighting that falls here in the early-morning is almost ideal. Since the property is well elevated, the sun is up well over the horizon often before I can seven see it from my own house. With the sunrise getting earlier every day, it takes more effort to capture the moment.

I scooted up the lane of the farm as I was leaving for the valley for a Church-related assignment, I didn't have much time to frolic here - I was finished my shooting in about 10 minutes. I was satisfied I got what I wanted and my day had started off on a positive note.

The two Nikkor VR zooms (16-85mm and 70-300mm) are all anyone really needs if you are a Nikon DX shooter.

When there's not much to photograph on the outside, try inside!

My D80 has been sitting idly for the winter, and it's always good to keep any camera exercised. My parents went to the city, this morning, so I took advantage of their absence and found some interesting subject matter in their home. The Sigma 50-150mm is an exceptionally sharp zoom, maybe my best lens from a pure optical standpoint. The Canon 500D mates very well with it for shooting macro subjects.

All of them worked together for these captures.

Gray tones of early-morn

We are in that time of year when it is warming up ever so slowly but there is plenty of mist that comes with the arriving dawn. This affords me numerous oppportinities to capture drama during my favourite time of the day, as I do a lot of driving along the LaHave River.

Black and white is often a better medium to express this light especially if there are drabby colors. I found these captures near the bridge on the Veinot Road, thank goodness the VR mechanism does its magic when I need it....My D60 now has in excess of 10,000 shutter firings, meaning it is far from being a new camera.

Spring glory in the town of Bridgewater

Sunday was a magnificent day, sunny and warm, with all the hopes that spring is here to stay. I normally frown on sunny days but the sun is still low enough in the sky that it's not unbearable for contrast - plus, I am comfortable shooting fill-flash images. If only people would get to know how much flash can help their photos, they would use it all the time.....D60 and 70-300mm VR with occasional use of the SB-600.
